with the natives and foreigners

Malapascua is consisting of natives and foreigners.  Most natives who live in Malapascua speak the local dialect (Cebuano) or commonly known as “Bisaya”, they’re hospitable by nature which made me comfortable. They don’t treat you as if you’re walking with a bank note on your forehead but a person who must see the beauty of Malapascua and enjoy its perks. From the place where I stayed to locals whom we met, who treated us not as strangers but friends? There were also foreigners who have been there for couple of months to work and stay. To be honest, we are still communicating and planning for some get together.  Take it from the person who felt their warmth and support.

Swim in the Crystal Clear Water

After Yolanda (Typhoon ), the place was devastated. I could see the differences; lesser trees, broken houses at the back, and yes they moved the port at the side portion of the island which I liked the most to avoid crowd and disturbances to the people swimming and enjoying the beach front. Even after the changes, I could still assure you the beauty of the water. I’ve seen lots of beautiful beaches and I’ll tell you it’s crystal clear. No exaggeration purely real judgment.

Sunset Watching

Imagine yourself sipping mango juice with a mix of alcohol in a reasonable price, sitting on a bean bag, offshore breeze slightly blowing on you, watching the beach, new friends that make you feel like you’re just at home and an alluring sunset! Yes, my beloved readers this was the exact scenario when I took this photo.

Skinny Dipping

Skinny-dipping or others call it nude swimming. I’m not saying this should be on your bucket list but I firmly recommend. (Laughing loud) Why this should be on your list; it’s fun and not common to our Filipino culture.  How should you plan and implement this risque activity?

Always choose the location wisely.

Don’t just skinny-dip anywhere because I recommend and you’re too game. One big “NO”

Everyone must agree.

We all know we live in a country of the “Maria Clara” attitude. Don’t force the others, but if you can’t resist.  Show them how excited you are, people will feel compelled to be excited.  Again, everyone must agree.

Perfect time.

Play in the water.

Don’t take pictures unless you have a good reason to.

Memories are good when photos are taken but memories last when they’re not ruined by a nude photo scandal.

Don’t go ALONE.

That’s pathetic and too unsafe.

  • Kalanggaman Island Palompon, Leyte

Considered by some as the most beautiful beach in Leyte. It is often included in island hopping packages in Malapascua. It has crystal clear waters and white sand beach.

  • Gato Island

One of the memorable places in Malapascua. This mountain-shaped island has no shore since it is actually a giant mass made of limestone. All kinds of marine animals can be found in Gato but the most notable of all are the white tip sharks, the bamboo sharks, and the cat sharks.

  • Monad Shoal

The rare thresher sharks can be seen at Malapascua’s Monad Shoal at any given time of the year, attracting a lot of visitors from all parts of the world. You have to go 98 feet or 30 meters deep to catch a glimpse of the thresher sharks so only advanced divers are allowed to see them.

Free-Diving

  • Historically, free-diving was practiced in ancient cultures to gather food, harvest resources. Nowadays, is also considered as a hobby.  It is a form of underwater diving that relies on divers’ ability to hold their breath until resurfacing rather than the use of a breathing apparatus such as a scuba gear.  Diving schools in Malapascua offer a free diving program, too.

Cliff Diving

Others call it tombstoning. It is act of jumping in a straight vertical posture into the sea or other body of water from a high jumping platform such as a cliff.  Do you have fear of heights? Here’s one more to be listed in your bucket list. To get there you can walk or ride habal-habal to Guimbitayan. Entrance fee of PHP 20.00. The place offers a great view and a place to cliff jump, of course.

Disco

We were planning to go home Sunday morning but the locals persuaded us to stay one more night. Yes, we were indecisive but they offered us additional fun, the disco. Every Easter Sunday, they usually have disco or even on ordinary Saturday nights. The disco was fun and you could see everyone was enjoying. I even saw group of foreigners and local kids having fun with their own dance showdown.

So…Plan up ,

Write the things you wanna do,
Invite you friends besties to Malapascua,
Pack up your things …
and get ready for that perfect Cebuanon welcome in Malapascua Island !!!
